Meld Pathfinder

Meld LogoIn collaboration with Sandbox and key media professionals Meld is delighted to be running its latest project aimed at developing training programmes for the journalists of the future.

Born out of the Meld labs and DNA 2008 the latest Meld venture brings together journalists, producers, games designers and thought leaders from TV, Radio, print and online. They’ll spend 2 days at Sandbox, a new research lab based at Uclan’s Media Factory, where they’ll discuss the likely impact of new technologies on the working life of future journalists – and the consequences for journalism itself.

The first session planned for May 20th and 21st marks the start of a lengthy process of research and debate aimed at developing a new series of online training tools for professional journalists faced with the challenge of multimedia working practices in converged newsrooms.

The project has been funded by HEFCE as part of their pathfinder project to establish greater links between industry and academic institutions.

Project leader Paul Egglestone was delighted to be awarded the project. ‘We love to do creative exciting projects that are of genuine value to the industry and tis is n o exception. The BBC, the Broadcast Training Council and the Periodical Training Council have supported us from the very beginning and since winning the funding they’ve been joined by the Times, Haymarket Publications, Johnston Press and Sky TV and others have been approached and plan to collaborate. This level of industry engagement is crucial to the success of the project and we’re delighted with the level of commitment already”.
